【摘要】:Thistestmethodisintendedtoevaluatetheabilityofpackagingtoresisttheforceofconcentratedimpactsfromoutsidesources,suchasthoseencounteredinvariousmodesoftransportationandhandling.Theseimpactsmaybeinflictedbyadjacentfreightjostlingagainstthepackageinacarriervehicle,byaccidentalbumpsagainstotherfreightwhenloadedorunloadedfromvehicles,bypackagesbumpingagainstoneanotherduringsortingonconveyorsorchutes,ormanyothercircumstances.Thistestmethodisintendedtodeterminetheabilityofpackagingtoprotectcontentsfromsuchimpacts,andtoevaluateifthereissufficientclearanceorsupportorbothbetweenthepackagewallanditscontents.1.1Thistestmethodcoversproceduresandequipmentfortestingcompletefilledtransportpackagesforresistanceagainstconcentratedlow-levelimpactstypicalofthoseencounteredinthedistributionenvironment.Thetestismostappropriateforpackagessuchasthinfluted/lightergradecorrugatedboxesorstretch-wrappedpackaging.1.2Thetestresultisapass/faildetermination,basedonacceptancecriteriapreviouslyestablished,andarecordoftheenergydissipatedbythecompletefilledtransportpackageduringalowlevelconcentratedimpact.Note18212;Thistestmethoddiscussestheconductofthetestfromaprescribedheightthateithermeetsordoesnotmeetspecificacceptancecriteria.Itmaybepossibletoconductthistypeoftestingusingmodifiedproceduresthatprovideanumericalresponse.Thesemightincludeanincrementaltestwherethedropheight(ormass)isincreaseduntilaspecificfailureoccursoranup-and-downorstaircaseprocedureusedtofindtheaverageheighttofailure.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
