【摘要】:Hot-meltadhesivesmustgenerallybeappliedatrelativelyhightemperaturesinorderthattheadhesiveviscosityislowenoughthatitcanbereadilyhandledintypicalhot-meltequipment.Changesintheadhesivecausedbyexposuretothesevereenvironmentrequiredduringhot-meltprocessingwilldisrupttheadhesiveapplicationprocessandmayaffectthequalityoftheadhesivebond.Changesinadhesiveviscositymayaffectthequantityofadhesivedispensedbytheapplicator.Phaseseparationorchangesinviscosityandcolormaybeanindicationofchangesoccurringintheadhesivewhichcouldaffectthequalityoftheadhesivejoint.Askinformedontheadhesivemayeventuallyclogtheapplicatornozzleordie.Thedatageneratedinthistestprocedurearecomparativeinnature.Resultscanbeusefulinobservingbatch-to-batchvariationorrelativethermalstabilityofalternateadhesiveformulations.Resultscanalsobeusefulinselectingapplicationequipmentandestablishingoperatingconditionsforsatisfactoryhandlingofaparticularhot-meltadhesive.Round-robintestingshowedthatthereproducibilityofthistestmethodcandependstronglyonthecharacteristicsoftheadhesivebeingtested.Resultsshowedthat,fortheparticularadhesivestestedintheroundrobin,thetestmethodwaswellsuitedfortestingtheheatstabilityoftheadhesivesbasedonanEVAcopolymer,apolyolefin,andapolyamide.However,becauseofpoorreproducibility,thetestmethodprovedtobeunsuitableforassessingtheheatstabilityoftheadhesivebasedonablockcopolymer.PrecisionofthistestmethodisdiscussedinSection11.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheevaluationofhot-meltadhesiveswithrespecttothechangeinpropertiesthatoccurswhiletheadhesiveisagedinthemoltenstateduringhot-meltapplication.Meltpropertiesmonitoredareviscosity,color,skinformation,andphaseseparation.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
